An age old question was asked of me in a meditation the other day. Who are you? This one is a classic. And it’s tricky. As you can guess, you’re meant to dive a little deeper than just offering up a job title or a role such as mother/sister/partner/lover. Anyway, that day I feel I got the closest to who I am in a nutshell that I’ve ever managed. An answer came to me that I think I will stay quite pleased with for many years to come. Although I might refine it or change my mind, I really like this one:
Who am I? I am a warm blob of energy.
It’s comfortable. It’s simple. It feels right and true and helpful to how I want to flow through the world.
Now, life is busy and I know even the warmest and gooiest blob of energy has to do STUFF. There’s kid’s homework to oversee, swim/sport/music lessons to get them too, dinners to cook, phone calls to return and classes to plan. But when I act from this warm blobby space, this comfortable deep inner knowing, life feels calmer, cruisier, freer and just plain nicer. Really, choosing to connect with that aspect of myself as much as I can is a no-brainer.
Growing up we were taught the gold is in the ‘doing’ not the ‘being’. We were taught that doing more will give us more and then we will be happy. But the reverse is true. Focussing on the being (blob or not) will fill your cup more effectively, more sustainably, more wholesomely than any measure of doing more and accumulating more.
And by the way, if you happen believe in your powers to manifest what you want, consider this: We do not manifest out of what we do but out of who we are. If you can be open and aware, (think: receptive warm blob!) then you will manifest more easily and live with greater ease and grace.
So let’s all dream bigger! Let’s feel how magnificent we truly are. If you truly deeply feel this, you will be loved and valued enough that you don’t need to run around looking for external validation.
Many of you yogis reading this will agree that yoga practice can give you this feeling so it’s a grat tool as an adult. But imagine if you could impart this wisdom to your children. How different would their life path be? How thrilling to assist your child to be their authentic self, unburdened by many of the fears which the ego tries to impart. If you are a grownup, do visit and seek out this space in our yoga moving meditations and relaxations. If you have a child, our tween (8-12 yrs) and teen (12-18 yrs) yoga classes start back October. Call me to book in a free trial during week one! Teens starts Oct 13 and Tweens starts Oct 18.

Here’s a poem to inspire you to dream big. I like to substitute the Universe for God! Whatever you personally believe, I hope you like the gist!
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.
We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us;
It’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we’re liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.
