Dear Beloved Yogis and Pilates Peeps,

Merry Christmas! This season is meant to be filled with joy, love, and togetherness, but we understand that people, hosting and family times can sometimes bring stress or tension. It’s all too easy to feel overwhelmed by expectations or the busyness of the holidays. In those moments, remember to breathe deeply, and find your centre—just like we do in our mindful practices in studio.

In the spirit of this season, let us embrace the present moment, focusing on the love, peace, and gratitude that are

ALWAYS AVAILABLE TO US. By nurturing ourselves—whether through movement, breath, or simply stillness—we create space for the joy and connection that Christmas truly brings.

Because, love and peace come from within, we know that by nurturing yourself, you will better radiate warmth and kindness to those around you. Here’s a simple exercise to help you reconnect with your breath and recentre:

Simple Seated ‘Rectangular Breathing’ for Energy and Calm:

1. Sit Comfortably: Find a quiet space to sit.

2. Close Your Eyes: To reduce external distractions and bring your awareness inward.

3. Take Deep Breaths: Inhale deeply through your nose for a count of 4, allowing your belly to expand. Hold the breath for a count of 2, and then exhale slowly through your mouth for a count of 6. Hold the breath out for a count of 2 Remember what I often say in class, this breath hold is part of the magic that will both give you good energy and settle your mind. You will move through the day with more grace. Repeat this 3 times.

4. Focus on the Present: As you continue to breathe, focus on the feeling of your breath entering and leaving your body. If your thoughts wander, gently bring your attention back to your breath without judgment.

5. Release Tension: With each exhale, imagine letting go of any tension or stress. With each inhale, welcome in a sense of peace and balance.

Feel the calmness in your body and the steadiness in your mind as you create space for peace and positivity to flow through you. Allow yourself to feel grounded, centered, and uplifted.

A Great Little Present for Yourself

If you love this practice, consider the Breathe+ app in your app store. You can set your square or rectangular breathing rhythm and I think it’s amazing! I use it all the time – let me know how you find it.

Wishing you a Christmas filled with moments of serenity, lightness, and joy. May you find your balance, breathe deeply, and be surrounded by the love you deserve. ✨

With gratitude and peace on this day,
